Build a personal forex glossary from an account statement

A glossary becomes more useful when each definition connects to something you can see in a statement. Instead of memorizing a long list, use a demo export to connect terminology with a concrete example.

Education, not investment advice. Examples are hypothetical. Leveraged forex can cause substantial losses; a stop order does not guarantee an execution price.

Start with five fields

Locate balance, equity, margin, realized result and unrealized result. Read the platform’s own definitions because labels can vary. Write each term in your own words and point to the line or screen that illustrates it.

Trace one hypothetical transaction

Follow an order from submission through execution and closing. Record where commission, spread effects, financing and conversion appear. Some costs are embedded in prices while others are separate entries, so absence of a fee line does not establish that a transaction was free.

Check your reconciliation

Calculate the opening balance plus recorded cash flows and realized results, then compare it with the closing balance. Investigate any difference rather than rounding it away. A glossary that helps reconcile a statement is doing practical work. It also exposes terms you only thought you understood before relying on them in a more consequential decision.
