Financing charges: the cost of holding a forex position

A position held beyond the provider’s daily cutoff may incur financing charges or credits. The headline price move does not show those cash flows, so a multi-day practice result needs more than an entry and exit chart.

Education, not investment advice. Examples are hypothetical. Leveraged forex can cause substantial losses; a stop order does not guarantee an execution price.

Find the product’s schedule

Read the provider’s current financing terms, cutoff time and calculation method. Long and short positions may have different rates. Weekend and holiday treatment can affect when multiple days of financing appear.

Build a cost line

For a hypothetical position, record each day’s applicable charge separately from trading profit or loss. Do not assume a credit on one side will offset the debit on the other. Rates and terms can change.

Compare like with like

When comparing providers, use the same pair, direction, notional size and holding period. A low opening spread can be outweighed by a larger holding cost. Conversely, a brief demo trade cannot tell you what a week-long position would cost. This comparison is an educational worksheet, not a ranking: the actual agreement and statement determine the charges that apply to a real account.
